Jorge aspired to acquire a university degree and attended several as a young man, including two in Puerto Rico.

However, the music was always a magnet for those who made him postpone any other plan without even trying, leading him to fully immerse himself in the world in the one who always felt at ease.

Jorge Edmundo Taveras Andjar was born on April 23, 1945, in Ciudad Nueva, Santo Domingo, to Miguel Taveras Rodrguez and Ana Andjar.

In the early 1950s, he began studying piano at the Santo Domingo Elementary School of Music, and in 1958, he joined a rock band led by Milton Peláez.

Later, Jorge enrolled in the National Conservatory of Music, where he met notable instrumentalists and broadened his musical expertise.

In 1962, he joined the Europa Hotel Orchestra as a pianist, a band that served as a kind of school for him because it was his first professional experience.

He also composed jazz compositions and worked for the National Symphony Orchestra. Due to health issues, Jorge Taveras retired from music and relocated to Florida.
