Jorge Taveras, a Dominican pianist, composer, and musical director, died on Friday in Orlando, Florida, according to his wife, Jovanna Garca.
Jorge had been suffering from health issues for some time. His death occurred when he was undergoing treatment at an Orlando hospital’s intensive care unit.
His demise was announced to his family on Friday. At the age of 76, Maestro Jorge Taveras passed away.
In a statement, the famed musician’s family recalled that he had been suffering health issues for years due to a brain disorder (aphasia), a condition that deteriorated into other complications when he was infected with COVID-19.
Taveras was noted for his roles in the documentaries “Camino al Pico Duarte,” “Sol Caribe,” and the television series “El Show del Medioda,” according to the IMDb portal.
Juan Luis Guerra sent a message on his Instagram account in response to the news. “Don Jorge Taveras What a lovely legacy you’ve left behind, dear teacher! Musician, composer, and arranger of the highest caliber. Thank you for everything you taught us!” He penned.

Jorge Augusto, Remy, René, La, and Ma are the children of Jorge Taveras’ first marriage.
He was married to Mrs. Jovanna Garca at the time. The couple has four children: Birm, Rafael, Natasha, and Margarita.
Jovanna Garca and her children issued a statement thanking everyone for their support during the family’s difficult moments.
“We are grateful for the support and presence of friends, as well as their children and families,” Garca de Taveras stated.
Due to Covid-19, the Taveras Garca and Taveras López families have indicated that their remains would be burned and that there would be no public wake.

Jorge aspired to acquire a university degree and attended several as a young man, including two in Puerto Rico.
However, the music was always a magnet for those who made him postpone any other plan without even trying, leading him to fully immerse himself in the world in the one who always felt at ease.
Jorge Edmundo Taveras Andjar was born on April 23, 1945, in Ciudad Nueva, Santo Domingo, to Miguel Taveras Rodrguez and Ana Andjar.
In the early 1950s, he began studying piano at the Santo Domingo Elementary School of Music, and in 1958, he joined a rock band led by Milton Peláez.
Later, Jorge enrolled in the National Conservatory of Music, where he met notable instrumentalists and broadened his musical expertise.
In 1962, he joined the Europa Hotel Orchestra as a pianist, a band that served as a kind of school for him because it was his first professional experience.
He also composed jazz compositions and worked for the National Symphony Orchestra. Due to health issues, Jorge Taveras retired from music and relocated to Florida.
