Booster and his adoptive parents, Kenneth and Janet Booster, had a strained realtionship because of his sexuality. They had never talked about these things because of his evangelical lifestyle in childhood.
He was a South Korean kid adopted by an evangelical Christian family and raised in Plainfield, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. His parents learned about him after they read their dairy when he was 17. He had talked about his conquests with male companies.
As a result, things didn't go well from each side, and the comedian moved out. Nonetheless, he spent his life sleeping on his friend's couches, ultimately at a girl home from choir. Later, they became best friends and stayed with the girl's family through high school.

He didn't talk with his parents unit the actor was in college. Nevertheless, time heals everything away. The comedian's father, Kenneth, passed away in 2021, and Booster regretted he never could introduce himself and discuss life. They took a long time to understand each other.
On March 2021, the comedian shared the childhood picture with his father and pinned, 'Our relationship was imperfect, but all of it feels so far away now. I didn't tell him I loved him enough when he was alive, but I loved him intensely and am thankful for his never-ending patience.'
However, he had an emotional phone conversation with his mother, Janet, when he dated his current partner. As a result, the comedian felt secure in their bonding. He had a good bond with his mother.

Booster was born in Jeju Island, South Korea, as Kim Joonim on February 29, 1988. The American comedian is currently 34 years old. He was adopted by an American couple and raised in Plainfield, Illinois, by a conservative Christian family.
Booster had homeschooled until his senior year of high school. He actively participates in Christain youth groups, and he dreams as a youth pastor in the future.
However, he has a passion for theatre. Eventually, he asked his parents to send him to public school. At age 16, he made an impression in the school play and mentioned his individuality to his classmates but not his family.

After studying theater for his bachelor's degree at Millikin University, Booster moved to Chicago and worked as a copywriter. Besides, he performed in theatre and even wrote jokes after his job. He had even tried the role of Chinese Food Delivery Boy five times.
The actor's stand-up career started in Chicago's theatre scene unconventionally. To pursue his comedy career, the actor moved to New York in 2014. The same year, he made his first debut as Joel in the TV Series Kam Kardashian. After two years, he acted on Conan.
In 2017, the actor was present in his Comedy Central Stand-Up Present Special. He was the writer of shows including Billy on the Street, Big Mouth, and The Other Two. The comedian published his debut stand-up album on November 3, 2018, called Model Minority.

Booster had starred alongside Susan Sarandon in the Viper Club, The Wheel Of, and Shrill. He played the role of Jun-ho in the American sitcom Sunnyside. Also, he co-hosted alongside Patti Harrison in the digital series Unsend on Comedy Central.
